Historic End to NBA Regular Season - Kobe's Farewell
When people ask, “where were you on the night Kobe played his last game as a Laker”, I will answer proudly. I was just one of a sea of people outside of the Staples Center witnessing greatness.
Of course watching Kobe's last game inside the stadium would have been much preferred.
My original plans were to watch the game at home; DVR the Warriors historic chase for 73 wins and out of respect flip through the channels as BlackMamba played his last game.
It was around the time Kobe scored his 24th point early in the third quarter, I had a moment of “what if”, an epiphany to get to L.A. Live as soon as possible. Uber was summoned and off I went.
Even if all of the restaurants were no longer allowing people into their establishments, the trip was well worth it!
My girl and I watched the end of the game from an outside patio on one of the many TVs in L.A. Live. A massive group of people were gathered to watch, folks from all walks of life, myself included --high-fiving in awe each time Kobe chucked up one of his fifty shots that led to his 60+ point performance. Even as Kobe grimaced in pain, short of breath on the free throw line, it was clear his adrenaline and muscle memory kept the show going. Oh, and the Lakers won a meaningless game to conclude what has been a horrible two season run for the franchise.
All that said it was a picture perfect end for Kobe. Hollywood scripted . It was classically L.A..
After the game it was time for more celebration. Lucky Strike was fully loaded with a sea of Kobe jerseys, DJ spinning and drinks flowing. Kobe's last game was a celebration indeed. Prior to the game I doubted he could score 40 or 50, let alone 60 points! Kobe stole the moment as all greats find a way to do.
Let’s hope Kobe doesn’t ruin this finale by joining a weak playoff team next year in pursuit of Michael and a sixth championship ring. Don't rule it out.
Even on a night where the Warriors made history breaking the Bulls 72-win record, it was all about Kobe Bryant’s 60+ point game. It was a perfect way to end the regular season and Kobe deserve to be great in his final outting. Respect. – #MAMBA-OUT!
