Quillin "Kid Chocolate" Doesn't Make Weight

In what should still be an entertaining middle-weight fight between undefeated Peter Quillen (31-0-0) and former champion, Andy Lee (34-2-0), this fight will not be for a championship.

Quillin forfeited his belts by not making weight on Friday. Below is his apology to twitter fans:

I hate to bash boxers, especially ones at the top echelon of the sport; Quillin has proven he's a top fighter in the ring and deserve to be paid handsomely for it. But even casual fans know the importance of fighters making weight. Not to mention this isn't the first time.

Since leaving Golden Boy Promotions to sign with Al Haymon and Premier Boxing Champions, Quillin seems content promoting a brand rather than top fights.

Instead of appearing on the Today show perhaps he should have been in the gym trying to lose the 1.5 pounds.

It's hard to blame Quillin for trying to make his money -- it's just equally frustrating that he won't make the best middle-weight fights. Gennady Golvokin aka "GGG" said he would go down to face Quillin but his camp is avoiding "GGG" like a plague.

Quillin isn't the only fighter avoiding "GGG" but he sure is taking a page from the Adonis Stevensen book. They are talented fighters not interested or commited to making the best fights in their respected divisions (no matter how much money be involved).

The ultimate losers in this game are the boxing fans. Andy Lee is a formidable middle-weight but he is certainly no GGG, or even David Lemieux, or Canelo Alvarez. A fight with Cotto would have been a better move for Quillin at this stage of their career.

If Quillin wins like he is expected too, fight fans need to expect better matchups going forward. And that is the Inconvenient Truth.
